Hosts
Subalpine fir, Sitka spruce, white spruce, Lutz spruce, western hemlock, and lodgepole pine.
Distribution
Throughout Alaska wherever susceptible host material is found.
Identification
Adults are 2.5 to 5.0 mm long, blackish with a distinguishable tuft of “hair” on the head.
Damage
These beetles cause little or no economic impact. Larval galleries are found under the bark of dead and weakened host material.
